Week 2 update from Red Bull Renewal project manager Steve Miller:
4/16/08 --- Another incredible week of work and progress for the track, community and the overall Red Bull Renewal project! The clubs membership #s are increasing each day and the club has already reached their May goal for memberships. We are a bunch of over achievers! Ha love it!!
This week we saw a little of everything. Sun, snow, wet to warm weather. This is Montana for you! The track is coming together well though. We are appox. 85% complete on heavy dirt work. We have opened a few sections for club members and the response is super positive. We have heard thank you's from just about everyone. All ages are excited about this project. We have created a fun, flowing track with many features (jumps) that are good for both the ams and the pros.
Chase and Cameron have helped out again this week. Chase came in from Idaho on Sunday to help out with the dirt work. Cameron has been consistently helping as well. Chase and I have been focused on dirt work and Cameron has been doing the fencing and building the tunnels for the track.
Several riders/members have been coming out every Tues. and Thurs. to work on the environment details, such as: announcer tower, lap counter stand and the starting line. All are coming together and the base work should be complete by Thursday of next week.
Red Bull and Montaqua water has been on ice this past week for the workers and the riders out at the track. People are stoked to have the goods cold and ready when needed!!!
Sponsor/Partner news: T & E Caterpillar has been a major contributor to this program through the donation of four premium CAT machines. This is the premium dirt-moving company in the world and they are a major contributor to this Red Bull Renewal project and Hyline Raceway. I updated them on the track developments this week and they were excited to hear the news and how things are shaping up! They are coming out this upcoming week to see the progress and are looking forward to the May 7th public opening. CAT equipment rocks!!
Sunshine Irrigation = Great people!!! The sub-contractor that the GVDR arranged to handle the new water system had some difficulties committing to installation. Looking at the calendar, I saw this as a major potential problem for the track and the Red Bull Renewal launch date of May 7th. I called the GVDR president, Shawn Peterson and we discussed the issues and talked about potential solutions. Just down the street from our SCS warehouse is Sunshine Irrigation!! Shawn said, “stop in and see.” I stopped into Sunshine at 9am the next morning and by 9:30am we were out at the track discussing details and deadlines. We met twice on Wednesday and twice on Thursday to go over the tracks needs for water. Thursday at 5pm. Shawn, Sunshine and myself met again and looked over the bid and agreed to get started. Sunshine Irrigation has not only stepped up to the plate for the club with an incredible watering system, but they are sponsoring the track/club. approx. $5k in labor and parts!!!! They are moto riders and they want to be a part of the project and help turn around the Bozeman moto community!!! Good people make for a great project. That's what we have all around us on this project!
Ressler Chevy/Toyota has also signed on with the GVDR as a premier partner. They want to be heavily involved with this community project and we are stoked to have them on board. The community and the support is growing!
Overall this project is my most satisfying to date! First off, I love moto and building tracks & features. Second, it puts a huge smile on my face to help the kids and the community! Third, we are recognizing more and more that we are shaping the future of moto in Bozeman, in Montana and maybe even some of the Northwest?!? I’m living the dream!!!
In the words of a club member: “In my opinion this Red Bull Renewal project has been the catalyst for a good club and good people. The GVDR now has wings and will be flying soon!!!” I look forward to contributing to this journey!!! Are you ready to fly?
